we drove through zanesville yesterday….its a real place. the stereotypical midwest town. we didn’t stop — due to the flocking of the zanes in every direction. there was a river, a few churches, and a beautiful blue sky in every direction.

6 states…
May 11, 2008Yesterday Josh and I drove through 6 states: Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and we are now in Kentucky (just outside of Cincinnati) – and we only stopped to get gas once.
Driving through the mountains/rolling hills/whatever you call them of West Virginia/Maryland was absolutely gorgeous. Josh commented on the excessive number of trees at least once every half-hour (note to the residents of New York City: plant more trees).
We had dinner at the Cap City Diner in Columbus with two of Josh’s friends – Heidi and Dan. It was great – we saw The Ohio State University campus, briefly, before posting ourselves at an outdoor table discussing the virtues and values of chicken on salad and the role a cartographist could have in a new mega-movie. Heidi frequently put Josh in his place while Dan/Josh discussed things with words I’ve never heard before (I have since come to discover the topic was football – or soccer as Americans generally refer to it).
Great quote was from Josh as we headed to his friend Shiv’s house, “How far is it from your house to Iowa? Just a ballpark.” Pretty sure last time I ballparked a distance, it never included Iowa.
Shiv’s place is awesome and he is very welcoming and great. So far my visit to Cincinntucky has involved sleeping – we shall see what today brings.
