Friday, May 16th: Part II: AT&T Park – Chicago White Sox vs. San Francisco Giants

May 17, 2008

G, Josh and I headed over for an evening at AT&T Park. As Josh said to a random woman sitting in front of us at the park, “I didn’t drive 3,000 miles to see the White Sox lose.” And win they did!

Giants fans are really passionate: they love their team, hate the Dodgers (they booed this woman wearing a Dodgers jersey), and have a beautiful stadium. There was a remarkable view of the Bay, you could watch the game from a trolley, and there was even an “Orange Man” wandering around proclaiming his detest for some Sox player named AJ. There was even a count for the number of “splash hits” — the home runs that dropped into the Bay.

After the game we headed to the Mission to find some sushi. It was definitely a Mankyd restaurant….

Friday, May 16th: Part I: The Golden Gate Bridge Experience

May 17, 2008

I took the bus from Haight-Ashbury all the way down to the Marina District. It was bright, sunny and perfectly blue skies. I walked along the water, through Crissy Field, and up to the bridge. I trekked about halfway across – I could see everything….San Francisco, Alcatraz, the ocean, barges, surfer-dudes. It is almost a surreal experience….but it was quite real, so that was convenient.

On my way back to the Marina District/the bus I watched the surfer-dudes for a while — if I had any balance at all, I’d love surfing. I followed Justin’s advice (jump in every body of water) and walked for part of the way along the beach through the channels. Sandy, wet and all around content I found the bus and headed back up the hill.
